You may have heard that the 5g network will impact advertising. With the upcoming official launch of 5g, areas like retail, transportation, education and healthcare will undergo significant transformation. 5g network will impact advertising too. This will be accomplished through high data rates, reduced latency and higher device connectivity. According to a study by Verizon Media, 47% of advertisers will use new or additional creative formats via 5g and 33% of advertisers are already planning for 5g. How is your business planning for 5g?

Undeniably, video is the most consumed content on the Internet. With the increase in mobile Internet speeds and less buffering, video consumption will increase even more. According to the Cisco Visual Networking Index White Paper, video traffic will account for 82 percent of traffic by 2022.

Also, 5g will bring higher data processing rates. Advertisers will have numerous opportunities to create compelling, creative, and high-resolution ads to engage consumers. With 5g interactive content like live-streaming, 4K videos will become more powerful.

As 5g progresses, it will connect everything from consumer devices to infrastructure, making every device mobile in the IoT era. 5g will only make this technology even more efficient and seamless. Marketers must prepare to serve content and engage customers with multiple formats across various devices.

Additionally, 5g will allow for faster exchange and retrieval of data. This means that advertising will become more complex and personalized. In-depth, hyper-targeted, and advanced location-based advertising will help create personalized ads to get customers at the right place and the right time.

Augmented Reality (AR) is slowly becoming a mobile staple. According to Oath, 85% of consumers believe 5g will benefit AR. High quality, interactive overlays could use any surface as an advertising medium. For example, a next-generation mobile device can double up as a projector. In addition,  a car’s dashboard could be used to advertise a nearby favorite coffee shop.


Although the impact of 5g could be very minimal this year, marketers need to prepare for the massive changes that will happen soon. It is only a matter of time when the 5g network becomes widely available.
